Michael Maes’ photographs are the result of a lifetime of art appreciation, education and immersion. As a photographer he is constantly evolving, re-educating himself, and redefining his creative role. He enjoys collaborating with his clients to re-examine familiar products, takes pride in his ability to relate to his consumer, and challenges himself to stay ahead of the curve. While Michael focuses on in-studio food and product photography, he also has a large collection of on-location outdoor photography and continually finds himself traveling to find the perfect setting for his shoots. However, he’s always happy in his West Loop studio that has accommodated everything from large-scale cookbook productions, recreated outdoor scenes, to short video/film shoots. When he’s looking for new perspective, he travels the world studying new landscapes, cuisines, and cultures, taking pictures along the way. A true outdoor enthusiast, Michael’s studio prides itself on being carbon-neutral and encourages giving through an annual donation to his clients’ charities of choice. Above all else, Michael is thankful that he can spend every day taking pictures and looks forward to the next creative challenge.
